Diabetes is a disease triggered by high levels of sugar in the blood. There are two types of diabetes namely Type 1 and Type 2. The contributory factors for Type 1 diabetes are unknown while there are different causes for Type 2. Insulin produced in the pancreas carries glucose from the bloodstream into the muscles, fat and liver cells to be utilized as fuel for the proper functioning of the body. Diabetes exists when our bodies suffer from insulin deficiency, exhibit good resistant to insulin or in several instances, the two of these causes.

Our genetic makeup acts a key role in the determination whether we get diabetes Type 2 or not. If you have a parent, brother or sister with diabetes then you may likely inherit the disease. Diet contributes a key factor. Taking in too much carbohydrates, fats, and proteins may place you at risk of acquiring diabetes.

Obesity, particularly in in the case of minors, is another contributory factor. Medical practitioners discourage putting excessive weight whether you are an adult or a minor.

Other known culprits of diabetes include exercise deficiency, age factors (those over 45years), emotional stress and smoking. The less activity you indulge in, the greater your chances of getting diabetes. Devoting most of your time sitting down is not healthy. Research has shown that those at least 45 years of age are more susceptible to suffer from this long-term disease. A busy and hectic schedule will cause stress on you both physically and emotionally, and if not addressed well will increase your risk of getting]acquiring diabetes.

Smokers are at higher risk since their unhealthy lifestyle causes a lot of strain on the body making it prone to many ailments including diabetes Type 2. Some viruses can also be a cause, particularly virus types which attack the functionality of the pancreas, such as Coxsackie B.
