There are many benefits for diabetics to include carbohydrates in their diet because carbohydrates will keep your body sensitive to insulin which allows more stamina. The carbohydrates are the only part of the food that will have an affect on your blood glucose levels.

When you eat carbohydrate foods they will break down into glucose which raises your blood glucose levels. This is how insulin is released into your blood stream from your body, and the insulin then clears the glucose from your blood and moves it to your muscles and this is how you gain more stamina. There are two main ways that you can work out what quantity of carbohydrates your body needs, and these are:

* Carbohydrate counting, and

* Carbohydrate exchanges

Carbohydrate counting is simply the amount of grams that is contained within the food that you eat, the way to find out these amounts is by looking on food labels, carbohydrate food tables, or simply by measuring from your experience.

Carbohydrate exchanges is identified as the amount of food that generally contain 10 or 15 grams of carbohydrate, for example:

* 1 slice of bread

* 1 small piece of fruit, and

* 250ml glass of milk

Carbohydrate is sourced mainly from plant foods that are included in our diet, the following are some examples:

* Bread

* Cereals

* Grains

* Potatoes

* Rice

* Fruits

* Vegetables, and

* Legumes
